KIM's HARDWARE FAQs
General
HOW DO I DETERMINE IF I NEED TO BUY A RIGHT-HAND OR LEFT-HAND LEVER FOR MY DOOR?
To determine the handing of your door, face the door from the outside of the room or home, determine the location of the door hinges.
If the hinges are on the right, it is a right-hand door. If the hinges are on the left, it is a left-hand door.

WHAT IS A PATINA FINISH?
The bronze’s patina is a living finish that develops as the product ages. During production, the bronze’s oxidized hues (patina) are enhanced through an element bath.
Touch, climate, and weather exposure will continue to change the bronze’s color, sheen, and texture.
Rocky Mountain Hardware considers wear due to climate and use as the patina’s natural aging process, which enhances the appearance of the bronze.
As a result, Rocky Mountain Hardware does not guarantee product patina finishes and will not repair or replace patina finishes under the product warranty.
WHAT DOES PVD MEAN?
PVD stands for physical vapor deposition and is the strongest and most durable protective coating in the industry.
The PVD process includes multiple layers of nickel plating that are electrified in a vacuum to fuse the layers together to create a coating impervious to harsh weather conditions and heavy use over time.
All PVD product in the Estate line carry a lifetime finish warranty and all PVD product in the Reserve line carry a 25 year finish warranty. These warranties are guaranteed to the original purchaser of the hardware.
THE HOLES IN MY FRONT DOOR DO NOT LINE UP WITH THE HANDLE GRIP AND DEADBOLT OF THE HANDLE SET I PURCHASED. CAN I INSTALL ANY OF THE TUBULAR ¾ OR FULL ESCUTCHEON HANDLE SETS DESIGNS?
All Baldwin ¾ and full escutcheon handle sets are designed to accommodate a 5-1/2” center-to-center spacing between the handle grip and the deadbolt.
If your door is drilled to a dimension other than 5-1/2”, we recommend you use either a sectional handle set or deadbolt with the knob or lever of your choice.

Care & Cleaning
HOW DO I CLEAN MY ROCKY MOUNTAIN HARDWARE?
The look of the bronze will change with time. Cleaning all surfaces with a mild soap, water, and a non-abrasive cloth will help the hardware age gracefully.
Water conditions vary across the country. Chemicals and minerals in the water and air can combine to have an adverse effect on the finish of plumbing fixtures. We recommend that you rinse away any traces of soap and gently dry with a clean, soft cloth after each use.
For any of our light or brushed finishes (white light, white brushed, bronze light, bronze brushed) you may use deoxidizing cleaner (such as Wrights Copper Cream, or Bar Keeper’s Friend) to bring the bronze back to its base metal finish. Then apply a high-quality clear paste wax to protect the surface. This process can be repeated as necessary. Do not allow materials such as toothpaste, nail polish remover, or caustic drain cleaners to remain on the surface.
HOW DO I CLEAN MY BALDWIN HARDWARE?
CARE OF ALL BALDWIN FINISHES
• Wait until nearby surfaces that have been treated with acid or chemicals has been completed before installing the hardware.
• Do not use any type of harsh chemicals on Baldwin door hardware.
• Be sure all surface paint or stain is fully dried before installing Baldwin hardware.
• Remove hardware when re-painting and do not re-install until paint is thoroughly dry.
• Avoid hitting your hardware with rings, keys or other sharp instruments.
MAINTAINING 033 VINTAGE BRASS FINISH
033 Vintage Brass is a living finish, that has a coat of Paste Finishing Wax applied to preserve the finish while in inventory. After a couple of months this finish will start to patina. If you would like to slow the process, periodically apply a thin coat of Paste Finishing Wax, such as Minwax, buffing the wax when dry with a soft cloth. If the patina has started and you want to bring back the finish, use an ultra-fine Scotch Brite pad to clean the surface and apply a coat of Paste Finishing Wax, let dry and buff off with a soft cloth.
HOW DO I CLEAN MY MEIR HARDWARE?
Do not use any harsh chemicals or rough surface materials such as scourers or adhesive tape.
A soft cloth with warm soapy water will keep the matte finish in good condition and will ensure your warranty is maintained.
