Briefed to create an interior that nods to the property owner’s Texas heritage, the project was led by Emily Seiders, Founder and Principal Designer at the Austin-based interior design studio.

Speaking of the project, Emily shared, “The home was a ground-up construction for a family of seven in San Antonio, Texas. The family had previously lived in Austin and moving to a new location, they wanted the architecture and design of the new home to carry with it some of the more typical architectural features that you often see in Austin.”

A captivating design by all measures, the open-plan kitchen is layered with materials like walnut and marble, each placed in intriguing forms to give the design its eye-catching stature. From the statement backsplash to the wall of ridged cabinetry, the placement of each design element provides an abundance of character at every turn.

Reminiscing over the design, Emily notes, “Our intent for the home was to inject a bit of unpredictability to an otherwise fairly traditional design. The clients have strong southern Texas ranch roots and that theme is vaguely woven throughout the space. From the backsplash in the bar featuring hand-painted cowboy portraits to the materials used such as steel and white oak, we focused on how many different textures and finishes we could get in each room to provide visual interest.”

Honouring the shapes seen in other elements of the kitchen design like the lighting and hanging glassware rail, the slim curves of each brass cabinet handle from the Loop collection add beautiful movement to the joinery.

Adding fluid appeal to the interior, Emily features the Loop collection throughout the Primrose project. The designer sourced these Armac Martin pieces from J&L Hardware, a collaborative showroom specialising in plumbing and architectural hardware owned by the Rygs, a husband and wife design team from Los Angeles.

Speaking of the project, the Rygs commented, "We have worked with Emily and her team on several residential projects over recent years and we knew this scheme was going to be special. We recommended the Loop collection as the linear design of the pulls provides the perfect complement for the kitchen cabinetry and the overall aesthetic of the house which features modern lines throughout.”

Having collaborated with Armac Martin for seven years, the Rygs noted, “Our shared dedication to innovation and quality has created a dynamic that is perfectly represented throughout this project in hardware that is both beautiful and functional."

Set against atmospheric textured walls, in the study, inky hues bring instant depth to the cabinetry whilst rich shelving and work surfaces balance the design with a warming effect. Punctuated with timeless brass hardware, the bespoke storage is undeniably sophisticated and reflects the need for order in a space designed to focus - a room that is beautiful without distraction.

Emily reflects, “Ultimately everything had to be beautiful but also durable and timeless at the same time. There is a push-pull between these two values in each room to form a functional home that is also impressive to look at.”
